The special features of Wilhelmshaven 2 LNG Terminal

The LNG Terminal Wilhelmshaven 2 is unique in Germany and Europe in several respects: The island jetty was built approximately 1.5 kilometers from the mainland in one of Europe's strongest currents. Furthermore, for ecological reasons, data, power, and, last but not least, natural gas pipelines are laid in the seabed and connected to a terminal station on land. An innovative system from ECOnnect is used for this purpose.

The FSRU Excelsior also offers another unique selling point: For the first time in Europe, DET is testing an ultrasound method to combat growth pressure in the seawater pipe system of an FSRU. The method is intended to prevent barnacles and mussels from clogging the pipes of the required water cycle.

The terminal is connected to the feed-in point of the first Wilhelmshaven terminal and thus to the long-distance pipeline network.
